Wednesday

Hi,

For those of you reading who don´t know who Jana is, I´ll tell you a bit about her. We met her a year ago through our homeschool group in Seattle. She lives half the year there and half the year in Spain, outside Barcelona. She is twelve, and a very handy person to have around here, I´ll tell you. Because she speaks German at home with her mom, she understands all the German around here. And because she speaks Spanish in school, she can take care of any communication issues we have in that department, too. And of course she speaks perfect English. How wonderful to grow up fluent in so many languages!

She had planned to fly back to Seattle near the end of June anyway, so we planned our trip to coincide with her return. She´s here to hang out with us for a few days, and we´ll all fly together to Barcelona on Saturday. We´ll meet her mom there, and she´ll go home Sunday and Monday, meeting us at the airport on Tuesday to fly to Seattle.

We had fun seeing the Caves of the Dragon about forty-five minutes from here. Mandy and Eli came by so we could follow them there. The rock formations were amazing, and the lighting is beautiful. The guidebooks say you get to take a little boat ride on the biggest underwater lake in Europe, and they have live violin music. However, that´s apparently changed. We sat through kind of a long, strange multimedia presentation that looked like all the illustrations from Jules Verne´s novels. No text! Just odd pictures going by. Then at the end, instead the boat ride, we stood behind a rail watching a guy steer a little boat around the lake in the darkness. The boat had two dummies in it. And while he rowed the little dummies around in a circle, a very loud, strange German opera was played, with images of the singers projected on the rock walls. Very strange! But the caves were definitely worth seeing.

After that, Mandy showed us the way to the nearby town of Porto Cristo. What a beautiful little bay and marina! Lovely soft sand, umbrellas and lounge chairs, the perfect way to spend the afternoon! We rented a little pedal boat, and the girls had a great time out in the bay.

We got back in time to go to a wonderful crepe restaurant. YUM.

Now I need to go get them out of the pool. It´s 10, and I think they´re ignoring the fact that the indoor pool closes at 9!

We´ll be hanging out with the other homeschool families tomorrow. The girls are looking forward to seeing their new friends again.
